Default Rotopax Fuel Pack System

In addition to the products we design and manufacture ourselves, we carry items from other manufacturers that find a smart way to solve a problem. One example is the Rotopax Fuel Pack system.

Color coded for safety and so you always know what’s inside, these packs are available for gas, water, and tools. They’re designed to lock together, too, so you don’t have to worry about them slipping around – and if you have panniers, they’ll fit along the top. The slim flat design is great for stability, as well as packing a load on top securely.

The flat fuel packs are designed to easily mount and lock into a luggage rack system (all our luggage racks are designed to interface with these). You can even stack several packs and lock them into place, ensuring you have plenty of fuel and water for your adventure.

The Rotopax design certainly made it easier to bring extra supplies, but the quality of the product is what really makes it worthwhile. The packs are extremely strong because they are rotationally molded – cheaper gas packs are either blown molded -- a cheap process that will never seal 100% at the cap -- or they are injection molded, and have weak spots in the pack wall where there was a bubble in the plastic. Additionally, Rotopax were designed to solve the common problem of cap leakage. They utilize a sure-seal gasket that won’t leak or vibrate loose.

We carry Rotopax Fuel Packs in one, two and four gallon sizes, Water Packs in the one gallon size, and the Rotopax Storage Pack for tools in the two gallon size. You can also explore our website to find out what other innovative products we carry.

How well would one of these fit on the back of the stock GS luggage rack? Any pictures of one mounted that way?

Hi, marc,

There are a number of different ways you could attach the Rotopax with the OEM luggage rack, but none of them are ideal (and some depend on whether or not you have panniers). That's one reason we plan to develop a luggage rack (much like the one currently being manufactured for the F 800 GS) that will interface well with the Rotopax.

To mount the Rotopax similarly to how it is in the image, you would need to find a way to attach the mount system (there are several options, but this is the locking mount) to your luggage rack. There's no way to do that with the OEM rack without modification or adding another piece.

However, if you want to bring the Rotopax with you on a trip, you could obviously use tie downs, Rok Straps, etc. to secure it. Then you'd have the extra fuel, water, or the tools you needed in a compact, protected space.

I was camping in a primitive spot (no water) a few weeks ago and the thought of having a gallon of water on the rack appeals to me for such situations. Tie downs might be acceptable as I'm already using ROK straps to keep my small cooler on the rack (everything else is in or on my zega cases).

I might just have to order one and see how it fits.

marc,

Get in touch if you have more questions or anything we can help you out with. The Rotopax are pretty impressive even without the mounting system.
