Mojave Crash
I was riding the GS for the first time off road. I was on a cross country trip in my motor home. We were at a campsite that had many "legal" trails that surrounded the area. I took the bike for a small ride into the desert. The trail was very sandy and rocky. Lots of fun, but my offroad experience was limited. The trail had a curvy section and the road was well packed until the second turn where there was very deep sand from the jeeps and atvs rutting out the corners. The bars clapped from right to left and I high sided the bike at around 25 mph. The bike was slightly buried in the sand and a huge rock was now ripped out of it's hiding spot behind the bike. There was some scuffs on the cylinder head and some of my pride left behind, but the bike was fine. I struggled to pick the bike up though. In the deep sand I couldn't get my footing to lift the bike. The whole time anxious about some local finding me and laughing at the stupid tourist on his $16,000 motorcycle in the middle of no where. I rode quickly back to the campsite to avoid any additional loss of pride and nursed my wounds with a heineken.
