Default Schuberth C2 Pinlock visor

My story, my first C2 actually had a no fog visor that worked. Unfortunately the helmet was replaced under warranty and the new visor on the new helmet fogged something fierce. I bought two more visors, knew they would be hard to get, and they too fogged.

After reading about the C3 coming with a Pinlock visor, I decided I wanted a Pinlock for my C2. Tried contacting Pinlock 4 times and never got a response! Found a Pinlock fitted visor on the web in Germany, but due to shipping etc, cost was over $100 and I dont need the visor, just the insert etc. So after some more searching, found a guy in France that said a Nolan 100 pinlock insert fit. Finally found a place in the U.S. I could buy the insert from and gave it a go, only $23. The insert arrived within a week and had the pins for the visor included with it, I was nervous they would not be included. I test fit the insert to my worse visor (no need to screw up a scratch free one) and marked the mounting points. Using a drill, I drilled very slowly through the visor. Go real slow, let the drill bit heat up and almost melt through. Once holes were drilled, put the pins in place and fitted the insert. Actually quite easy. Have not had it on a ride yet, but just wearing the helmet around and breathing heavy in it.............no fog!!!! It is rainy out today, so this evening or tomorrow I will take it on a real world test to see how it does with fogging, rain, and headlights.

My only concerns so far. The visor is heavier now. I wonder if it will stay open part way, I tend to ride with it open quite often for fresh air. The other thing, if it works, I would like to put it in a visor that is scratch free (current visor has a scratch on it) but I dont know if the pins will come apart and out without breaking. They press together and I dont think they will pull apart easy. And as for the anti fog coating on the visor, I did not clean it off.

I will update after I actually ride some with it.

Unfortunately, I did not get out yesterday in the rain I did get out today in the sun but at least it was chilly and that gave me a chance to see if the pinlock worked. Yes it did! The visor fogged around the lower edge of the pinlock, but the pinlock did stay clear. What a novel thing to have, a clear visor on a cold day! Well worth the $23 spent.

It did take a few minutes to get used to the lines on the visor from the edge of the insert, but once I got use to them, no problems what so ever.

As an update, the visor works very well in the rain. I have only gotten it to fog one time and that was after walking to the bike in the rain, so hair was wet and figure that made things worse.

Now for the down side. The anti fog coating on the visor will blister under the pinlock, this in turn will cloud the virsor or scratch it or what ever. So the issue is, how to get the film off of the inside of the visor without damage to the visor or affecting the clarity.

I once read that plexus removes the Schuberth anti fog coating. Don't know if its true or not. Since I have a can of plexus I'd give it a try. Doesn't do the exterior of the shield any harm.

I'm just starting to use a pinlock on my Arai XD. So far, so good, but it hasn't been both cool and wet yet here in the SF bay area. Temps are 80+ today!

I tried plexus, rubbing alcohol, heat, steam, it slowly flaked off, but did not come off easily without damaging the visor
