Question R1200GS Windshield, Which One??

I am looking to find out what taller guys are using for aftermarket windshields on the R1200GS. I am 6'4" and the stock windshield is not working. My head it directly in the air flow. I need something to push the air over my head. I like the looks of the stock one but not high enough. Anybody tried the tall CeeBailey shield, or the Adventure shield with the CeeBailey mounting bracket?

I'm not as tall as you (6'0") but went the other way and cut down my windshield, putting my head in clear air instead of the turbulent stuff that came over the stock windshield. That does get a bit cold in the winter so I have a Touratech extension that I can clip on as needed.

That said, putting the Adventure windshield on the bike along with the adventure wind wings seems to be quite popular. A few friends have the Givi screen and seem to be happy with that choice, too,

Im 6' 4" and I purchased the Z tecknic windshild. I directs the wind over my head. I dont even need to put down the wind screen on my helmet. Is narrow and you still get side wind on your bicept / shoulder area. I also have the Adventure winglets. I like this set up.

I have a Cee Bailey plus 4 inches which I eventually cut 2 inches off of and it works very well for me but I am only 5' 10". Have since installed Adventure winglets whic make a big improvement.

Consider the CalSci screen.

I have it on my 1200GS and my wife rides one on her new F650GS Twin.

I've had stock and Cee Bailey. Both were ok, but the CalSci is beyond belief for reducing wind, buffeting and increasing protection.

Plus Mark @ CalSci is a great guy to work with.

Hi guys.

joined this forum as well as this issue concerns me too. I've had a R1150R for two years, and now a 1200GS since five years. I'm 6.4. Had the 1150R back for one day while the GS was in service, can't believe i did drive that for two years.. Great bike, but not when you're 6.4 (and yes with the optional higher saddle). On the GS I simulated the higher optional seat with a folded blanket on the original seat, and purchased again this optional higher saddle. Was happy with that, but just wanted to try an even higher saddle, did the blanket trick again, and have now my custom made seat sitting 28mm (I intended 30mm - but custom..) or just over an inch higher than the optional high seat in the high position. I also move it forward 1/2 inch to keep the same gap vs.the tank
So what do i have now:
- a bike no-one dares to climb on - higher then the Adventure / HP2 etc
- just great leg angle (so you're biking pants don't sit way above your boots & knee protection does not creep up
- slightly more aggressive / forward upper body position i personally like.

However whatever i did, and whatever screen position, my helmet was still in turbulent, noisy air. Maybe it's me but to me it becomes unbearable at 60mph (i've got a Schuberth as well) . So now i have and cut down the original 1200 GS screen, sit in clean air, and i now have custom made (instead of foam) ear plugs. Still would like better wind protection, but don't want to give up my riding position.
Had the K1200GT for a day, even with that screen i can't drive without ear protection.

6'3" and the cee bailys is perfect. Just road 80 miles in 35 degree weather.
Wind wasn't an issue.

My legs, now that is another question.

Default Sexy screen

http://machineartmoto.com/shopsite_sc/slipscreen.html

This site produces an awesome looking screen. Ordered one today and when it gets to me (in Australia) I will post on how it fares (no pun intended). The only improvement I could suggest is to make the side mounts larger to allow for some adjustment because we are not all the same height.

I am coming off a naked R1200R and so love the wind and clean air of a naked. Get upset by turbulent rumble created by screens.

Hopefully this will take me back to clean air & at the same time eliminate wildlife on my binnacle.

Default CeeBailey shield

I have the tall CeeBailey shield and I just took it off for the summer. I get absolutley no air behind it. I am not as tall as you(5'8"). This winter was great I could ride alot longer than my husband when he was getting cold. But with the weather warming up I want some air flow and I have changed to the original gs shield. The CeeBailey is adjustable and I had it adjusted as low as it would go and still got little air.

Default Common thread

Of all the posts on both this site and ADV rider - windscreens seems one of the most popular.

Doesn't that tell you something. We love riding otherwise we wouldn't even think of getting on a bike or being here. We hate the turbulence, discomfort and tinnitus.

It seems to me that we are resident in one of lifes many conundrums. If you ride a bike - it's windy.

Wind makes a noise when your head is in a bell (helemt - jar).

Get used to it and look at the scenery when you are not looking through the next corner.
Screen = turbulence & protection (limited)

No screen = clean air & exposure (unlimited)

Hard or soft centres? It's still chocolate!!!
