Will be picking up a (new to me) 09 GSA this week-end -
Was thinking of adding the BMW GSA tankbag while the dealer is giving me a discount on accessories... Any feedback on that bag would be appreciated - I can only find rather uninformative single pictures online... |

Hi All,
Just after a bit of advice on tank bags and came across this forum. Although an experienced biker I'm new to the BMW scene, just bought an 09 1200 GSA recently. I'm after a decent quality tank bag can anyone recommend a decent product? I'd be using it for week long trips mainly to hold small items and maps as I also have panniers. Are the BMW or Touratech ones any good? I have a chance to purchase a BMW one with part number: tankrucksack r1200gs 7687604 [993307] lieferanten-nr.50751810 Can't find any info on BMW's website to say if this will fit my model bike, but it looks identical to the one in the current BMW catalogue. Any help would be greatly appreciated, many thanks, Adam. |

I thought the tankbag was too big, so instead, I opted for the wunderlich handlebar bag. It's perfect for my iphone and other small stuff...

Picked up the GSA yesterday and drove it from San Diego to San Jose - partly in the rain along the coast - it was great. Tankbag-wise and ended up picking up the BMW GS Adventure tankbag from the dealer because I received a great discount on it - I like it. It is smaller than the "large" gs bag but still holds lots and is expandable. It has a useful small pouch in front were you can put valuables - phone, wallet, etc...) and easily detach and take with you (or you can use included strap to make into fanny pack). Despite the larger size it does not impede movement or vision in any way. The map pocket is HUGE. Inner pouch with cord makes it nearly waterproof without a cover, and pouch can be secured out of the way if rain resistance is not required. Only down side if fiddling with the zipper-and hook system when refueling - easier to dismount before trying to do it I think... Also you need to affix a velcro strip to your tank panel. Maybe I'll also pick-up a smaller bag sometimes for when you just want to carry a few things (isn't that what pockets are for ?

There were no real modifications done. They give you a small bar (for mounting the zippered base) that fits a GS where the tank skin screws are, near the seat. The mounting bar doesn't fit the GSA. I just took the tank skin off and used velcro on the back and attached the zippered base straight to it. No big deal at all. The bag doens't move. Mike |
