I read a great post on how to mount a Pelican case on a 1200GS. The application was necessary to carry a valuable camera and laptop. My question, after considering the pricey Touratech and Jesse top cases is why wouldn't retrofitting a Pelican Case (or similar product) be more common -in place of these pricey products mentioned above? They are as rugged, (maybe more) waterproof and cost 1/3 the price.
I'm fairly new to motorcycle touring so if I'm missing something, please let me know. This application seems to get me a durable top case to use for luggage at a fraction of the cost of traditional luggage. Do people do this? If so, can it be mounted on a 'rear mount' instead of the 'solo mount'? Thanks |

I run a pelican 1510. Awesome. I hauled my laptop (17") 3300 miles of rough road and Florida monsoon.
I have the foam in for the computer no foam otherwise. The way mine is set it sits quite aft so I don't want a massive volume box.

I use a 1520 as a top case with givi 41's on the sides.no issues at all. Plenty of room. I have removed the pillion seat and use a cortech bag mounted vertically and it doubles as a back rest.
