Default High Beam Adjustment

I have just bought a second hand 2004 R1200 GS, and must say I'm very pleaased with it...except that the high beam is pointing way up into the trees. Low beam seems to be pointing on the road OK. I have looked closely in and around the back of the light housing for an adjuster, and found the knobs on the bottom centre and the one top right. I can't make these adjust the high beam in any significant way without throwing out the low beam lioght position. Any help would be aprpeciated. Ciao Pedro (Bendigo, Victoria, Australia)

The repair manual and the parts breakdown don't show any way of separating the high beam/low beam adjustments. As you found, the external adjustments affect the entire headlight assembly.

I'd pull the bulbs and make sure they are seated correctly. Not sure there is much else that can be done save replacing the entire assembly. However, I've not had mine apart. Perhaps there is something else you can do.

Good luck,

Default Headlight Adjustment

Make sure the internal headlight framework is seated properly in the adjustment linkage. When replacing a bulb with my big hands, with limited light, and new to the bike, I pushed too hard and popped the ball out of the socket. When you pull the rubber cover off to get to the lightbulb, see if the reflector jiggles around. If it does, it needs to be re-seated.

I ended up taking the headlight assemply off of the bike and I think I had to fasion a hook-like thingie to reach in and pull the internal framework back into the external housing. Pop! and it was fixed. It just took two hours to figure it out and two seconds to do it.
