Talking power commander

Has anyone tried a power commander on their GS? Do they make one for a 2005 GS? I installed a yosh titanium racing slip on, a small screen, took off the rear hugger, and the hand guards as I never take the bike off road. It looks great, picked up a bunch of power, lost a lot of weight, but it idles rough and I believe a power commander would help. Thanks,

Jake

I have a Power Commander for my '07 GS but I haven't got round to fitting it as yet. It would equally fit an '05 model.

I'd be surprised if your rough idling is down to the mods you've made. I suggest balancing your throttle bodies. Also, just changing the can doesn't make a great deal of difference to the fuelling or, indeed, the power output. For the most effective power increase, you need to fit a new seat of headers without a catalyst. I have a full Remus system on my bike and it's made quite a difference to the way it picks up through the gears.

From the way you describe your bike, it sounds as if you're going for something close to the same approach as me. However, here in sunny ol' Scotland, I'm definitely keeping my handguards.

Cool

Thanks for the info. I noticed the vibration, only at idle as soon as I put on the yosh slip on. It is there racing slip on, it's completely open (no silencer or end cap) and I do notice a substantial mid range power increase. I will post pictures as soon as I can. Is there a short cut to keeping those spoked wheels clean? I'm thinking of trading mine for alloy wheels as it goes better with the street fighter look I'm trying to get. Your bikes looks very good.

How does your Remus system sound? Is it loud, or just louder than OEM? I will be buying a new 09 (GS or GSA) and I am already shopping for a aftermarket can. I would like to replace the OEM header as well, but I wonder if the Remus will be too loud.

It's certainly louder than OEM. At idle and running around town it's not offensive. The can is an e-marked titanium Remus Revolution with the dB killer still in place. With the throttle pinned open at 6K rpm it's another matter and sounds a bit like tearing calico at 500W.

If it's the added performance you want, but want less volume, you'd be better off fitting the Remus headers with the OE can.

Thanks for the infor. Sounds like the Remus header will be the way to go. I understand it is compatible with the OEM can. Will other aftermarket cans also fit with the Remus header? Logic would say yes, but I know logic doesn't always go with motorcycle aftermarket compatability issues.

Subject to usual variations in production tolerances - yes they should fit. I've certainly heard of people fitting Akrapovic cans with Remus headers. Also, on the Dynojet site, there are downloaded maps for the PCIII which include ones for bikes fitted with Laser cans on Remus headers.

Thanks for the additional info. I am pretty sure that I will go with a Remus header (or other) to remove the cat. I would like to put on an aftermarket can to give the bike a little sound, but I am thinking the Remus can will be a little too loud. They have started cracking down on us Americans and our loud pipes here in Germany. I had to buy a new pair of mufflers for my Harley 2 years ago. That was an expensive inspection that year.

Given that a Remus Revolution can is E-marked, I believe that it should comply with Europe-wide standards for sound levels. Quite how it manages that, god alone knows but it does.

i had on 05 with a remus headers, leo vinci slip on, wunderlich big air intake, K&N filter and a wunderlcih fuel controller, it all worked good together, i now have basically the same stuff on my 08 but had to set the fuel conrtoller differently this tim, you can adjust it without pluggin in a lap top or puttin it on a dyno!
