Question Attachement plate for topcase

I am new here, having bought my 1200 GS just... yesterday (from an F800 ST.) And living in Montreal, PQ, I won't ride it before three months. So, to help kill time, I am looking at some mods and accessories I may want to add comes Spring.

I know a third party manufacturers sells an attachment plate for the topcase, that you put where the rear seat usually stands. However, the one I saw requires that you take down the rear luggage rack. Not a very good solution in my book. Do you know if the one that BMW swells requires the same hing, or if you can keep the rack?

Thank you.

I think I have found the answer, and, yes, the BMW plate requires you remove the rear rack. Thanks anyway.

The Best Rest plate replaces the passenger seat without needing removal of the GS rack. I used to use one with a pelican case attached for camera gear before I decided I needed a larger bag.

Example pic... ignore the grey pelican case

Merry Christmas.

Thanks, Marc. Looks interesting. Where did you get it? Also, I doubt it, but will the rear rack leave enough room to put the BMW topcase there?

No, it won't work with the BMW top case. I misread that part of your original question. I don't think it is possible to use the BMW top case AND have the stock rear rack. Will likely have to go after market for the rear rack as the stocker handles will get in the way of any medium to large case on top of the rear platform.

Default Topcase forward mounting kit

The BMW forward mounting kit does require that you remove the handgrip / rack combo.
I tried it and went back to the stock position after a week or two...
It is more difficult to mount the bike and I found the forward mount puts the Vario topcase right into my back.

I still have the kit though... but then I tend to hoard bike stuff.
