I have talked myself out of purchasing a very low mileage R1200GS with all the trimmings execpt ABS. Then wondered if it was possible to add it to the bike now. My guess is that it will be prohibitively expensive, but I figured you guys would know.

Anything's possible but the cost and hassle would be prohibitive. If you want an ABS equipped bike, buy an ABS equipped bike.

these systems are installed at the factory with all the sensors, harness's etc.cessary software, it is a fairly complicated system and not available for subsequent installation, after the inital build on the bike this is why you won't find any aftermarked abs systems advertised for sale!

I would not bother, the electronic upgrade would be more complicated than the mechanical, the the ABS unit will not last, and you will be taking it out when the ABS pump fails down the line.
Best advice would be to trade yours in for a newer model with ABS, and with a warranty. Spend 2k on a trade up rather that the money on a retrofit. CelticBeemer.
