Default Heindenau K60 Tires

I'm headed to West Virginia camping and fly fishing for a week the end of July. I was going to put some Continental knobbies on for the trip but one of the guys in the local BMW club mentioned the Heindenau K60's. Anyone have any one have any experience with these tires?

I have a K60 rear sitting in the garage to try when my current rear tire wears out.

The tire gets good reviews, but... the K60 in 150/70 17 size hasn't been available since late December. Some folks are running the smaller version. Since the smaller version is not specified for the GS rim size I wouldn't do that.

My current set-up is a TKC-80 on the front and a trail attack on the rear.

I ran the K60 from San Diego to Alaska and back. I am sold on these. It performed well on the road and on the Dalton Highway. We had some rain north of Coldfoot and I was not lacking for traction. I run the 150/70-17 on the rear and the Tourance on the front, that combination works well for me. As mark said, I wouldn't run the smaller tire on the rear, the 150/70-17 should be out by the end of October.

Hi,

I put on the K60's last October (2009) to use them all winter and in March for a trip in Morocco. I used them until last week when I had TKC 80's installed for the next Morocco trip (don't ask ). I used them from snow till sand and they do their job well. Main reason for going to TKC for now is a little bit more grip and because the GSA will soon not be needed for everyday transport (I don't have a car). Otherwise a fresh set of K60's would be my first choice. I was able to do 18kkm with them and the profile was still 4 mm front / 5 mm rear. Unfortunately only 2kkm was offroad on low speeds because I'm new at this.

Greetings, Tom.

My rear K60 when on the bike about 4 weeks ago with a brand new K60 Scout on the front about 4 days later. I'll not be using the K60 front again once this one wears out. I do not like the noise. I also do not like the fact that it likes to follow some road imperfections. That including some rain grooved roads. The rear, so far, has been fine. I have not tried them in the wet, yet.

I'm pretty sure I'll go back to a TKC-80 on the front when this front K60 wears out.

Default Don't underinflate Heidies!

In South Africa. there have been some isolated incidents of Heidenau tires de-laminating when run under high load (and possible low inflation?)
I personally witnessed one incident on a club tour where the tire on a GSA (less than 1000kms since new) threw off a chunk of tread the size of my hand!

The rider is a large man - perhaps 300 pounds - but his wife is petite and tiny, so they make up for one another.

The local importer claimed that under-inflation was the cause, but refunded the initial purchase and paid for the replacement tire.
