Default Accelerator

I can't help myself. The GS may be 5 years old, but it's been about 6 months since I bought something for it. I needed to show the GS that I still care.

Haven't had a chance to ride the bike after installation, yet. Maybe later this afternoon. Click on the image to get the install story.

Keep us posted, I am thinking to add an Accelerator to my 02 R1150RT which runs like crap at low speeds compared to my 08 R1200GSA. I am tired of the surging no matter what I do, sync the throttle bodies, rocker arm clearance/valve clearance adjustment, pulled the CAT code plug, updated the cam chain plunger, Autolite spark plugs, it still surges. An Accelerator might be grasping as straws, but for the price it is worth a try.

Only one short ride on bay area back roads so far. Much improved low RPM throttle response. I can run the bike smoothly at 20 MPH in 2nd gear. Test was in 70 degree F temps. I'm curious to see if the improvements hold over a wide external temperature range and what, if anything, it does to my gas mileage.

So far it's worth €40.

I've had mine for quite a while now. Maybe 1200 or so miles.
No sig-- differences to report..... in gas mpg's or seat of the pants dyno...

But.... the placebo effect raises eyebrows and reacts greatly!!!

My opinion...save UR hard earned cash....
I dunno....my bike "always" serviced by me, has always run great and with just under 40K miles has really worn in nicely.
Guys in the UK report it helps on the/their later modeled GS's like 2009 thru 2010.
Guy in Africa reports nuthin' spectacular even when hookedup to a dyno an computer showing results....

As far as oilhead surge....my 2002 never surged so I'm unaware of this so called surge many have claimed...

Did I write surge? Nope, nothing about surging. My oilheads didn't surge, either.

With the cable installed on my bike in temps ranging from 60 to 85 F the low RPM throttle response is better. What is sometimes called EFI snatch is reduced. It's not gone, but it is certainly better than it was. That's all I was looking for, so I'm happy. I'd guestimate the improvement to be noticeable in the 3500 RPM and DOWN range. I don't notice any difference at higher RPM. I wonder how many folks even look at the left hand side of a dyno chart?

This mod is NOT for those expecting a performance boost where performance is measured in horsepower. It looks to be nice mod for those looking for a nicer ride when they are not running WFO.

I missed the how much question, sorry. €40 I think.

So far I've ridden in temps from about 55 F to 85 F. Gas mileage seems to be about the same as it was before the change (42 MPG or so).

I have bought it and tried it for about 30 miles. There is a definite difference in throttle response and the way how the engine sounds at low RPMs (2500-4000).

Those who generally keep their RPMs higher (say, above 3500) will most likely not feel any difference. I generally like riding in lower RPMs unless I need acceleration, so this accessory is a keeper for me.

I have not yet tested the difference in fuel consumption. Even if it is a bit higher, I would not care too much paying 5-10% more. I don't think that difference will make a big dent on my wallet.

Default Accelerator

Hey Marc
I am up in Vancouver BC and have a 2010 GSA and been thinking of installing the accelerator. As you mentioned its the low end surge it addresses not an overall performance increase.

Do you know of any one with a 2010 GSA thats installed one?

There's been some talk on advrider.com about using the booster plug (similar to the accelerator) on the new bikes. Apparently one person is having an issue, others report it works fine.
