Default handlebar bolts - anybody know the size?

Hi - technical question.

The 4 bolts for the handlebar clamps have, I understand, E10 heads. I'd like to replace them with either hex- or regular torx-headed bolts. Does anybody know the size?

I replaced the shift lever pinch bolt (E8) with a 6x25mm hex-headed bolt; I'm still looking for a torx bolt for that.

TIA for any info.

The torque table at http://www.r1200gs.info/misc/torque.html lists bolt sizes, too. The entry you are looking for is Steel handlebars to fork bridge, M8 x 30

If you are planning on buying handlebar risers don't buy any bolts... the risers will come with their own.

My solution was to buy the needed E-torx. Figured I was going to need then sooner or later, anyway.

Thanks for the link & the info.

Main reason I want to replace the bolt rather than buying the tool is because having a tool that just has one single purpose pretty much guarantees (in my world) that when I really need it, I won't be able to find it - and therefore I'll go buy another one. Once I've used it, I will then find the other one, ensuring that I now have 2 tools that only do 1 thing. Then, of course, I will forget to pack that tool & will need it whilst on the road 200 miles from anywhere.

Depends on the year. Pick your year and go to "steering". The size is listed in the description.
