Hi Folks,
My front engine cover is badly corroded and in need of re-painting, so I want to take it off and get it powder coated. Is it an easy job to remove then replace the engine cover for a competent DIY mechanic ? Or is it one of those jobs that never seems to go well from the start, and is best left to the shop to do ? I have the Haynes Manual, and it gives it a 3 spanner rating, meaning fairly easy for a competent DIY mechanic. My level of mechanicing is fairly good, and I do all my own servicing using the excellent video by Jim VB Can anybody share some advice, or handy hints & tips to make the job go smoothly ? By the way I’ve made a two legged puller tool at work to help make the job easier as shown below:- ![]() I also made a crank case oil seal installation tool at work that is shown in the Haynes Manual Any advice guys ? I'm not aware of anyone who's pulled the front cover due to corrosion. I am aware of folks who cleaned, masked, and painted with a rattle can to good effect. Here's a pictorial of just that:
