Default Problem with a stripped Thread that hold the bash plate.

hi all,

I have had my 1200GS from new since 2006. A week ago - i felt the calling to empower myself in doing some basic Maintenance.

I started to remove the 6 bolts that hold the touratech bach plate, changed the engine oil and the oil filter. So - far all good.

then i re-screwed all the bolts back in the correct spots for the bash plate - Except for one.

This one was located at the Front Right corner - its about 10mm short. It kept spinning within the mount. Now i realised that i must have stripped the thread that is located within the mount as the thread on the bolt is in good nick.

So, I would like to know if i can get this rethreaded or do i just need to buy a new mounting "pin"?

anyone here know what i am talking about ?

cheers
Siva

Your exact configuration is a little unclear, but most thread repairs
can be done with a "insert" with various trade names. The damaged
thread is drilled out and tapped and the insert is screwed in and
you are good to go. Google "thread repair" and you can watch
any number of videos to see which way you want to go.

There are also a bunch of products that squeeze out of tubes that
advertise as thread repair...pretty cheap but I don't know how
well they work.

Thread repair can be a little bit of an art form so you might want to
check with a local mechanic or machinist.
