Angry Brake problems

I have been doing some work on my '05 GS and when I started out for a ride I had two problems. First, the abs light was flashing very quickly and I had very little braking power (returned home in short order). Second, the brake light would not come on when I used the hand lever or foot lever. When I removed the brake light lense and turned to bulb to the right, the brake light came on---no hand or foot level applied.

The work I did was to wire my gps from the front outlet directly to the battery and install a new air filter.

Any ideas?

First thing is to check both brake switches. In your work on the bike you may have, for example, bumped the hand protectors. On on '05 GS if the hand protector is rotated slightly it will push the hand lever in just enough to toggle the brake switch, causing the problem you are experiencing.

Once you've made sure that the hand guards aren't touching your brake or clutch lever check the switches by gently moving the lever with the ignition off while listening very carefully. You should hear the click of the switch on both the hand and foot lever.

Let us know what you find out.

Default Thanks

It was the hand protector. You were right. I must have moved it while I was working on the bike. I should have thought of it in the first place. Thanks for your help!!
