Smile Tire change question

Finally gonna change my stock tires after 9000 miles. I've done this on countless street and dirt bikes with tire irons, elbow grease and some occasional colorful phrases but never a BMW with the tire pressure sensors...
A few simple questions:
1. I have the spoke wheels, treat pretty much like normal wheels, right?
2. Where/how do the tire pressure sensors work? Are they part of the valve stem or something
3. Are they fragile?
4. Would I be better off paying the $25 per wheel to get them mounted???
5. Any other issues to worry about?

Thanks!

I believe the factory TPS monitor is part of the valve stem. Don't break the bead by the valve stem and take a bit of care with your tire irons and you'll have no problem.

I don't have any problems with tire iron and my after market sensors.

Hey jrbuete,

I'm glad you asked the question! I'm about to practice changing a tire myself, and any info is great! On my wheels(spoke) there's a sticker just a bit to one side of the valve stem showing the sensor position. Not that I was doudting Marc, i'm just glad I had a reminder to keep an eye on the sensor when I take my tires off! Let us know how you made out!

$25 per wheel sounds like a pretty good deal to me!
