Default Noisy wheel bearings

Hello once more fellows,

I've got a serious noise coming from my front wheel which I figure is bearing noise. There is no undue play in the wheel. Anyone else experienced this? I've got just over 17k on the odo. I'm wondering if cramming some grease in there will keep them rolling until the 18k service. Thanks as ever, in advance for taking the time to read my GS woes, or as they say where I'm from, "Go raibh mile maith agat.

Don't know the answer to your question, but the last time I had noise from the front wheel it went away when I mounted new tires.

Can you hear the noise when spinning the wheel by hand? Can you feel any roughness when turning the wheel slowly by hand?

Hi Marc,

Yes I can hear the noise when I rotate the wheel by hand. It's also noisier now than when I first noticed it a few weeks ago. It doesn't feel rough as yet though.

At the cost of a couple of seals it shouldn't be too much work to see if maybe you got some water/rust in the hub. If you see rust I don't think I'd trust grease to make it OK. I wouldn't want the wheel to sieze while riding down the road.

You might need to buy/make some tooling to replace the bearings. Or bring the wheel to your dealer.

Default wheel bearings

before replacing packing bearings check brake pads, sometimes pads are the problem even if their not worn some brake cleaner sprayed on both rotors can clean up the noise. when my brakes start to make noise i clean them with brake cleaner followed by aircraft simple green then plenty of fresh water seems to work cleaning the junk that adheres to the rotors/pads
next question did you ride through deep water, then it may be bearings
good luck

No deep water wading in the near past. I just took the wheel off and had a look at the bearings and they seem pretty healthy so I've greased it up and put it back together and the noise appears to be gone for now. I'm gonna give it a test ride now and see what happens. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the input.
