Default ECU Fault code - fuel related

Good evening all
I am a new GS owner having just purchased a 2007 bike with 30k miles.

I intend to do all my own servicing and have much mechanical knowledge to perform such tasks with.

My GS911 arrived today and to my dismay the ECU is showing a fault code-
10167 Output Stage to Electric Fuel Pump Faulty
The fault is only current during the first few seconds after engine start. When i clear it, it reappears once the engine is stopped and restarted again.

Any ideas what this means? Is it the FPC on its way out? Why only at start-up?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Andy

Just a guess...but on any pump start up your biggest current or
voltage drop is at start up and "some" corrosion
in your FPC may be throwing the fault code. In other words you may
be showing 12 volts to your FPC and 11 volts to the actual fuel pump
because of a 1 volt drop from corrosion. This may be O.K. for running
but to little current for the increased and temporary start up load.
Your error code may indicate you are "blowing a fuse" or the
electronic equivalent on start up because of FPC corrosion issues.

Welcome to the forum.

Hi and thanks for the advice.

Ive had the FPC off today and found it spotlessly clean. I sprayed ACF all over it and on the contacts but the fault remains.

Interesting to note its the new black powdercoated FPC??

Anyway, next question is what happens if i remove the FPC altogether and bypass it permenantly using one of the many documented methods? Will it throw another fault code? Cause any further problems?

Regards

Andy

You might want to post your problem on the GS911 forum. As far as the
by-pass I can't help you, I don't quite have it figured out myself.

Some folks report that some fault codes have to be removed by the
BMW dealer computer (GT1).

Good luck...let us know what happens.

Old FPC on my 08 GS was apparently a recall item. It has silver body. New part is black body.
Upon checking with GS911, old FPC showed the fault code as mentioned.
New FPC doesn't.
If your FPC is silver body, you can consider to replace it with the new black body. It will reduce the possibility of being stranded with faulty FPC.
