Default Brake Switch Problems (Hand lever)

Does anybody know how to adjust the hand lever brake switch?

It is making too much contact, and as a result the Brake Power System is not engaging at start up, and the brake light remains on. I took it to the dealer (many miles away) and had to wait a whole morning for them to adjust it. this is three days ago. They did not adjust enough and it is happening again. I think it has to do with outdoor temperatures, which today are very high. I would love to be able to adjust it myself, without having to drive the miles and mind the wait. Any ideas?

What year bike? With the '07 and earlier bikes the brake lever can be slightly depressed by the hand guard if it rotates a bit. Check to make sure the guard is not touching the lever. If it is move the guard back where it belongs and slightly tighten the T-55 screw at the end of the handlebar.

If it really is the switch location take a look at this:

It's about adjusting the clutch switch. I'm assuming the brake switch is similar if not exactly the same.

It is a 2005. I did check the HandGuard. I know definitely it is the switch, and the link you attached gives me some very useful clues. I also called the dealer in the meantime, and they said that I probably need a new switch. I will see how or where to order one, and replace it. I can see from your link, and the bike that there is a tiny screw that releases the entire switch. It should be rather easy. Thanks!

When/if you adjust the shifter rod, always make sure the heim joints at the
ends are lined up with each other. They're pretty forgiving, but if they're
too far out of line it'll cause the linkage to bind sometimes. I always have
to adjust a bunch of backlash out of the throttle cables on a new bike as well.
but like a lot of things, that's sort of a season to taste issue.
