Default Advice on fitting Staintune Headers

Hi all,
Does anyone have any advice on fitting Staintune headers to a GS1200 2009 model?
Also, any tips on tuning or re-mapping?
Thanks.
Ken

Default Staintune Complete System

Hi,
I've just fitted a new Staintune system (headers and exhaust) to my 2004GS.
The bike runs fine and does not seem to need any re-mapping. I've taken the noise restrictor plug out and the bike sounds great.
Being Australian I love Staintune and their warranty provided. Unfortunately this time I could not get a weight saving check. I feel it is a couple of kilos at least. I replaced the 2 cans on a Suzuki V-Strom (DL1000) and the weight saving was a whopping 9 kilograms. That's 4 House Bricks in Australia.
Enjoy the Staintunes

Thanks Mavicone. I appreiate your reply.
By the way, where are you in Aust?
Did you take out the cattalytic converter shit or leave it in the pipes?

I'm in NSW at Wauchope. Would be good to go for a run one day.

Cheers

Ken

Whereas an '04 GS may well not run much too lean when fitted with a set of aftermarket headers, the same is unlikely to be true for an '09 model. Later generations of the bike are mapped leaner as stock.

At the very least, budget for a dyno session to establish that the air-fuel ratios are within acceptable limits and be prepared to purchase a Power Commander or similar device to remap if, as I suspect, the fuelling is much too lean with a full exhaust system fitted.

Default Ah Motorcycling Heaven

Hi Ken,
For our overseas members; your town is the eastern start of the Oxley Highway. Rated Number 1 ride in Australia by many. I know one roadsign says 66kms of Curves Ahead. Bewarned. He! He! I live in Grafton now after leaving Hornsby last Christmas.
And I did not tamper with the Staintune System supplied. That big GS converter box does go though. The Staintune with Stainless Headers and no converter really make the bike a "that is art!' The Staintune people also supply the Compliance Sticker for your bike.

Cheers Mavicone. We must go for a run one day. I can't wait to get the headers.
