Default Final Drive Maintainence Question

I serviced my final drive this past weekend for the first time. The directions I was using said to put .25 liters (250 ml) of gear lube in the drive. Another source said 180 millileters but I had already put 250 ml in. Do I need to remove 70 ml? By the way, I did a test ride of about 25 miles and nothing detonated.

Thanks.

Mike

250 was for a completely empty FD, i.e. an FD that had just been put together. The amount was 220 ml for a fluid change. There also used to be a lot of leaky seals. Changing to 180 ml supposedly lowered the drive internal pressure to eliminate the leaky seal issue.

Yeah, I'd remove the excess fluid. Nothing will explode, but you may be at greater risk for a leaky seal. If it leaks and you happen to not notice the leak you could destroy your FD.
