Default 05 R1200 GS brake fluid change

Can anyone guide me on how to replace the brake fluid of my 05 R1200GS? I know a thread exists for the 1150GS but I am not sure whether brake systems are the same. If another thread exists I'd appreciate if someone would highlight such a thread for me. Many thanks.

Pulled from the MOA site.

Is the '05 an ABS machine? If so then it has the electro-assisted brakes and you'll need some tools to bleed the wheel circuits.

Tools needed: http://advwisdom.hogranch.com/Wisdom...ng_adapter.pdf
Procedure: http://advwisdom.hogranch.com/Wisdom/service_abs3.pdf

What those documents call "ABS-3" is called iABS by BMW and was in use from '02 through '06 (or was it '07?). The current brakes are iABS II.

Default R1200GS Manual on eBay

I just bought a great official manual on DVD for $10.

From this guy: BMW R1200GS R1200RT R1200ST Service Repair Manual 2004-2009 | eBay

Default Filler adapter

There are instructions at the first link in the second post in this thread. (BMW will not sell the tool.)

I made mine a little differently. I drilled and tapped one of the filler caps and threaded a small pipe nipple into it and attached the nipple to a small funnel. Then I put a plug (same threads) in the hole after using the funnel as a temporary reservior for bleeding. Works fine.

The DVD manual I mentioned above has pefect instructions for bleeding. If you buy that disk, spend some time studying it. The photos and drawings all expand if you click on them. It's really good.

Google youtube for some great videos on your question.

Don't miss Mazby's stuff...it is "mystical"

wow, it's interesting that BMW doesn't sell tools to support their product!

beemerboneyard.com sells pre-made funnel/fillers if you don't want to make your own.

Depends. The 12/24K kit is great for 24 K as it includes the spark plugs, something that isn't needed for a 12K service. If you just got the bike their Super Maintenance kit will keep you going for quite a while, needing only some crush washers and oil for the next 4 or 5 oil changes. It comes with the oil filter wrench, too.
