Default Should i buy R1200gs 2008 with 93000KM milege on it

Hi world,
I'm new to BMW stuff, usually using Japanese bikes. I shall lay the question to all GSer guru's there.I really like this bike. Should i buy R1200gs 2008 with 93000KM milege on it . The bike shop said it have been service to authorized agent in August 2011. As far as i know with this milege it must do valve clearance. I have yet to check what the previous owner had change on the bike send for service at authorized agent.
Hopefully you guys could give some in put.

Valves are checked/adjusted every 6000 miles, 10,000 km. The job is quick and easy to do. My bike has over 100,000 km. The only thing that I can see stopping me from putting another 100,000 km on my bike is boredom. Past history says I'll get bored with this bike and want something different at some point.

The answer to your question probably depends upon the value you're getting. If you're paying $20,000 for the bike it may not be a good deal. If your paying $1,000 then why haven't you already bought it.

Smile 93k is nothing

I have a 2005 model with the same km, it has just hit 93000km, and i have had it since it had 6800km.
I had it serviced by our "BMW dealer of the year" at 70k just to make sure all was well. The rear gearbox seal had to be replace due to a leak, which seems to be a bit of a hit and miss issue with this model, but apart from that all was well.
I have done all service work since then myself. I change the engine oil evey 6000km (schedule is 10) with Semi Synthetic Shell, and because it is so easy, and so cheap, i do the gearbox oil at the same time.
Valve clearance is vey simple and takes about 45 minuets from start to finish.
If anything this engine is getting better as the km go on it.

Just fitted HID headlights and the difference was unbelievable.

Don't let the amount of km put you off, and if you are able to change the oil on your car, you should be able to do basic maintenace tasks on these bikes.

Buy it, enjoy it.

Default how about clutch plate, haul sensor etc

how about about clutch plate, haul sensor etc. I'm from the south east asia so the price of a beemer is expensive ..cant compare with u guys from the west.
A fren of mine said to watch out on clutch plate and haul sensor etc etc ..how to know a clutch plate that needs to replace?if japanese bike kick on first gear with the clutch lever in , if the bike moves thn it need replacement . What is haul sensor ? can give me some links

Clutch plate could be an issue. It spends upon how the previous owners used or abused the clutch. They can burn out in < 30,000 km if a lot of slipping has been going on. They can also last 250,000 km or more if treated OK. You'll know you need a new clutch when you try to go up a hill and find the RPM rising while the speed of the bike is falling. The issue with clutch replacement is that there is a lot of labor costs. The bike has to be literally split in two.

Hexheads do not us a hall sensors, instead using some kind of variable reluctance device. There are two, on on the crank and another on the right cam (up through '09, anyway... don't know about '10 or later). I've yet to hear of a crank sensor failure. Once in a while you'll hear of a cam position sensor failure, but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with mileage. It's also easy to replace. As for what the devices do... they provide a digital signal to the engine management controller. The signal tells the controller how fast the engine is turning and what cylinder is on the compression stroke. The controller uses this info to manage fuel injection and spark.

Default After 93k of milege, what do i have to be concern of?

Thanks marc and jr for the info .i'm on the verge to do a downpayment.
So after 93000km of milege when is the next servicing? wht will hapen if i dnt send it to authorized Dealer? ..due to save cost

Hi,
I have just purchased a 2004 GS with 140,000km on it. No Books and tyres I had not heard of. (MITAS). The bike needed some cleaning and a new seat. I now ride it to work and back everyday. 95km round trip. The bike is awesome. I believe the only thing that will kill it is if I stall on a railroad crossing and a freight train runs over it.
Your BMW Dealer can hook it up to Germany and see if it is running ok and inform you of any recalls that may need doing. Soooo easy.
I was a Suzuki nut but I now have 3 Boxers. (Dont ask).
And when you are in the BMW shop buy as much clothing, gloves etc that your credit card can bear. Its the best gear you can have.

Service every 10,000 km. Most services consists of an oil change (w/filter) plus valve check/adjust. Every 20,000 km also change the air filter, the fluid in your transmission and final drive. Every 40,00 km change spark plugs. Every 2 years flush your brakes. As needed inspect cables, brake discs and pads, hydraulic fluid levels, lights, etc.

That's about it. You're long out of warranty so it is not important who does the work so long as they know what they are doing. You can do the work yourself if you feel comfortable doing so.
