I saw a company that makes after market disc rotors but they were tricked out, probably not cheaper than stock. I don't think they get replaced that often making aftermarket not a viable business for someone but I would try all the BMW online accessory places.

I assume you mean they are warped? The only way I have seen disks warp is when they were left on during a tire change and the tire changer (person or machine) applied a side load to them and also saw one rear disc bent when it fell off of the jack during a tire change and it landed on the disk. On my K bikes and I am sure that the GS probably follows suit the front disks float so make sure someone hasn't put washers under the bolts and tightened them down. They have a spring washer under the bolt head and the bolt tightens down against it's own shank. In other words, torque per the manual and use loctite on them. I have also changed one disk do to wear below the minimum thickness.

My original rotors were replaced under warranty due to warping. The replacements likewise warped but unfortunately my bike was out of warranty and the parts warranty for the discs had expired.
Much less than OEM rotors, I bought Galpher wave rotors, mounting them with the original BMW parts. These rotors are beginning to pulse just like the OEM rotors. I called Max BMW to see if there were any rotor mounting bolts, etc. that would allow the rotors to "float" better. The parts guy said he too had an '07 model with the same issues and that I should just get use to the pulsing. According to him there are no modifications that will eliminate the eventual pulsing of the brakes. I have noticed after very hard braking that the brakes don't seem to pulse initially as much although over time the pulsing will return. By that I mean the hard braking might clean off deposits that might cause the pulsing sensation, but this is only temporary and the deposits will return. Likewise, a light rubdown on the rotors with sandpaper seems to temporarily reduce the pulsing, but again it eventually resumes. Good luck! |
