I've got an 05 GS that is hard to get on the center stand and from what I've read that’s normal for this bike. I've done a modification that I thought I'd pass along.
I cut .25" out of the stand and it's made a huge difference. You can test this on your bike by putting two pieces of .25" plywood or metal under each wheel but not under the centerstand. This will simulate taking a .25" out of the stand. On my bike the rear wheel still comes off the ground after the modification. You need to be careful not to change the relationship of the two spring mounts. I used a .25" end mill to cut a horizontal section out of the bottom legs just above the feet and their brackety. This is a curved section so care must be taken during machining so everything is square, that way it will go back together properly. Welding it back together so everything is square and straight is a little tricky but not impossible. I can't guarantee this will work on other bikes but if you are having problems it might be worth checking out. Last edited by Greg N; 11-Dec-2011 at 04:34 AM (440). |
