Default Boots and shifting?

Making the move from KLR to a 2010 1200 GSA and my boots (Alpinestar Scouts) don't seem to like the room I have form them to shift.

It looks like a simple T-something wrench is all I need. Is that right? Does that give me enough room for the fet toe of adv boot?

Default Shifter

The shift level is on splines so you can loosen it with a 10mm wrench, take it off and move it up. Problem is when you downshift, it could be too high.
