Do the current generation R1200GS come with magnetic drain plugs? I see in some old posts that earlier ones had none or some, what is the current status?
Digging through on line part lists it seems to me that: engine - ? transmission - yes final drive - no But I would like to have confirmation of that so I know if I need to order magnetic plugs to be ready for first oil change. |

+1 on the Dimple. I replaced the oil drain plug on my 2011 with a Dimple. They are expensive...but *very* strong. On my last oil change, which was full synthetic, and at 3000 miles, it *still* had silt on it... Amazing that it could still pull ferrous material that fine.

I just did a service on my 2011 GS and yes, the factory plugs on the oil sump, gearbox and final drive seemed to be magnetic but very weak. When I inspected the plugs, there was evidence of a fine chaulk on each plug, so they were capturing something. I upgraded all three to the dimple. At the very least, perhaps consider a dimple for the final drive. My thinking on that is if any metal is floating around in the FD, it will be captured by the plug and hopefully prevent a sudden wheel lock.
