I know you guys have come up with cleaver and attractive ways to add Powerlet sockets to your GS. I want to add 2 sockets running direct to the battery, but don't see a good spot to mount them. Photos please!! I also have a cigarette lighter socket that I want to mount up front to power my GPS.
Thanks for the ideas, Barry |

I have successfully added some accesory outlets to my '07 GS. I added one 12v cig. style outlet, and 2 BMW style outlets, plus a hardwired plug for my Garmin 2720 GPS. The 12v cig. style outlet is pictured here, with a switch next to it that operates my aux. driving lights. The lights are wired to come on with the low beams, but can be switched off.
I fabbed an allumium plate that this plug and switch are mounted to: ![]() I also mounted 2 BMW style outlets that I will take pictures of and post them ASAP. The Cig. style plug is wired in with a BMW style plug and both are connected to the battery and always hot. This is so I can leave my GPS on, as it is also tied into this fused wire. The second BMW style plug is wired into a Centeck fuse panel, and is switched. Here is a pic of the Centeck fuse panel: ![]() The fuse panel is mounted to a plastic plate that fits to the tool box, and when installed, the fuse panel is upside down in the tool box, hidden.

Here is the right hand side Powerlet acc. plug installed. I wired this plug direct to battery with an inline fuse. Note also the BMW Adventurer Winglets attached to the fairing panel.
![]() This is the left hand side plug. This plug I sourced from the BMW dealer. It is supposed to plug into the rear acc. plug that is included with the bike, but the plug addaptor is different from the rear acc. plug, so I wired this acc plug to the Centech switche fuse panel. ![]() This gives me plenty of plug in options. I wired my tank bag with a Powerlet Tank bag kit, so I can plug my tank bag into the right side acc. plug. My GPS is hot wired with the right side acc. plug, so it can stay on when ignition is off. I can plug my heated jacket into the left hand acc. plug, and my Escort 8500 fuzzbuster into the cig. style plug. (when I am out of Virginia, of course )

Are you asking where to get the switched power? Popular choices are the accessory socket, the tail light, the diagnostics plug, or the low beam of your headlight. I use the accessory socket for GPS and radar detector and the low beam of my headlight for extra lighting.

Along the lines of wiring, I was planning to use the parking light to trigger my relay for the fuse panel and the low beam to trigger the relay for my aux lights. Is there any reason I couldn't use the low beam to trigger the relay for my Centech AP-1 and have the aux lights directly powered by my Fuse box. I want my lights always on. If there is any time I do not want my aux lights on, such as a bad battery or alternator, I can always pull the fuse. This would reduce the number of relays required, and the number of wires (one relay for powering fuse box, one for the horn). Does anyone make an adapter for the headlight similar to the one for the parking light? Seems like an elegant solution.

Nice wiring diagram!
Jim ![]() PS I use the diagnostic plug, it works like the headlight.
