Speedo/Computer Conversion imperial to metric

Can anyone tell me what is involved in converting a US model R1200GS, with Miles on the speedo and the computer to kilometers for use in Canada?
I am assuming that US models show Miles as opposed to km's.
I would guess the computer would require only dip switch changes but have no idea.
I am thinking of buying in the US as the sell price difference is anywhere from $5000 to $8000 fr the same bike.

The speedo has both a mph and km/h scale. The odometer can be changed via the BMW diag computer, I had my dealer change the temperature readout to °C and the clock to 24h format while keeping miles but it could have been changed, too.
