Question PIAA Light bar and Aeroflow lowers?

Just bought an '05 that has the Aeroflow windshield, including the lower section. Want to add some lights, so I got one of the PIAA light bars. Wouldn't ya know it? The bar with the stock hardware runs right smack dab into the lower mounting bracket for the lowers. I was prepared to cut a nice hole in the lower windshield for the bar, but not to completely redesign either the bar mount or the windshield mount. Anyone else run into this problem and, if so, how did you solve it?

Thanks in advance,

Barry

Default piaa light bar modification

I had the same problem and didn't want to cut the aerflow.I shortened the Piaa light bar and recut the flat on a bandsaw. the lights fit just outside and below the windshield. The only problem for me was a glare from the lights when I took the piaa plastic guards off. It took me about 2 hours to measure, cut and remount the lightbar.

I ended up drilling holes in the Aeroflow. I used a dowel rod, cut to fit the PIAA mounts, to determine where to drill. A forstner bit drills the windshield very easily and then I used a Dremel to round off the openings. I then sanded the edges with 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and polished with Maguires plastic polish. The holes have about 1/8" clearance around the bar and look like they were supposed to be there. I had to relocate the lower braces on the Aeroflow because they were right where the light bar went through. I'll post some pictures when I have time.

Cool PIAA Lights and Wunderlich Side Tank Covers

I have a 2007 R1200GS that is my absolute joy. I have the PIAA light bar with the 55W small egg shaped lights that are great. I recently ordered the Wunderlich "Carbon Look" Tank Side Covers see it here: http://www.wunderlichamerica.com/mot...e/8110263.html that are designed to be used with the Xenon fog and driving light combo same as Touratach sells.

Only issue is going to be that I don't want to drop another $800 on Xenon lights when the PIAA's work just fine. However, I'm not sure how I am going to mount them without the light bar and the "brackets" they sell for the HELLA Xenon lights bolt to the side of the lights where as the PIAAs are a top mounting light. Therefore, they will have to be moved back and higher up a few inches.

Any ideas anyone???

I mounted the light bar under the fender so the lights would clear the Aeroflow.
