Default value of k+n filter on r12GSA?

hey there:

anyone tried a K+N filter on their 1200gs? i have used these filters in the past on autos, but wondering if there is any noticeable performance gain on a moto.

Thoughts?

Rob

Don't specifically know about the R12, but on other beemers the stock filter is not a factor in reduced air flow; the shape/volume of the air box and snorkle are. The consensus on those bikes is that the K&N adds nothing. Some go as far as saying the K&N is a negative it that it doesn't filter as effectively as the stock filter. I don't know.

We have been repairing German cars for over 30 years and have seen a number of motors damaged by K&N filters. When the K12RS came out, the local dealer replaced several motors because of the use of K&N filters. Need I say more?

Regards,

Barry

K&N does marketing real well, on other sites, someone did flow tests and the ability to keep the small particles out of your intake on a few brands...K&N did extremely poor. Had one when I bought my RT, now just replace with stock. wonder why they want you to oil theres up so much???

Okay guys you have me worried now, I've been running with a K&N in mine for 3 years.... What have I done.

Not had any problems yet and my BM dealer hasn't made any comment on it, other than he didn't change the filter at the last service because I had the K&N.

Just been reading the postings and got worried, I have on order the Wunderlich Air Charger and K&N filter. Is there anyone who can give some input - should I fit the K&N or not.

Your bike, your choice. What problem are you trying to address by changing air filters?

Spend your money however you wish but the K & N will not increase your performance on any BMW that I know of and your air filteration will be reduced. Anytime I have seen a K & N removed there is significant dust & crud that has gotten past the filter, much worse than what you normally see getting past the stock filter. Just saying
