There is a lot of information on experiences, good and not so good, with Rick Mayer seats on the Adventure Rider site. If you are not familiar with it go there and choose Gspot for the GS info and do a search. This may get you there:
http://www.advrider.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=3 The majority of people who have one of Rick's seats really like them. Most of the people with complaints complain about customer service/lack of communication. A very few have complaints about the seat itself. My impression is the Russel Day-Long is getting the highest praise. I went with the Russel for my GS1200 Adventure and I really like it but do not have too many miles on it yet. It was a hard decision for me. Rick lives less than 10 miles away and did a super nice job on a seat for my K1200LT. Rick rides BMW's and stopped and helped me when my Airhead GS charging system crapped out in the boonies a few years ago. I was a stranger to him and he spent a lot of time helping me get home. It may have helped that I had one of his dad's seats on my Airhead GS (still do). Not really pertinent to your question but maybe its nice to get another perspective on Rick. Chuck Palmer |

I have a Russel on my 07 Adventure. I have only had a chance to put a few hundred miles on it. The most in one day was only a hundred miles. The stock seat had me squirming around after 30-50 miles. A hundred on the Russel and I am as comfortable as can be. I had a (Russel) Day-Long seat on an old Suzuki a couple of decades ago. Bill Mayer was still making them. Bill made a seat for my R100GS and Rick made one for my K1200LT. Rick transformed the LT seat where 5-600 mile days were no problem. I think the new Russel seat may be the best of them all but I need a lot more time on it to tell for sure.
One downside to the Russel is on almost all of them they raise the seat height. They will build it any height you want but it seems like everyone gets raised up. I am on my tiptoes at stops now unless I slide forward but lessening the leg flex is a good trade-off for my old beat up knees. I do not plan to do much dirt riding but this seat height on a heavy big could be a problem in uneven terrain. In the past I found if I was riding all the time (often didn't have a car) I could get used to any seat and it never bothered me. I can't ride that much anymore and I want my seat comfortable right from the get go. The Russel does that for me. Chuck Palmer |

Thanks Chuck
I feel the same way with comfort. If the seat height goes a little higher I think I can handle it, I only have a 30" inseam. I saw a seat that someone had on ADV rider and said that russell carved the seat closest to the tank so that he could be flat footed. Hope it works for me. I normally ride 2 up extra weight there also. |

I took the "low" BMW seat for the Adventure along with the passenger seat to Rick Mayer a few weeks ago. He modified two H-D seats for me along with the GS A seat. Previously he did my RT seat and the R1200C seat. I have had great experience with him and his seats. I have been there twice. All seats have been done in leather.
He added a little more cushion to the RT seat while I was there this last trip. Here is a view of the Rick Mayer GS A seat on the day the bike was delivered by the dealer: http://www.azbiker.us/Motorcycle/BMW...e/IMG_1161.jpg
