Default After Market Brake Pads

Im getting ready to replace front and rear brake pads. Any sugestions for aftermarket pads would be appreciated. I havent had good luck with OEM. Braking power is good but lots of squealing from the pads at low speeds

Thanks
Graham

I've use Dunlop Pads (I think now they're called DP pads) instead of OEM pads on my past 4 BMW's with great results. They're a little cheaper, stop great wet or dry and produce less brake dust Although I never had an issue with the stockers squealing.

OK, Im going to try to not sound to snaughty but someone needs to help or straighten me out. Ive posted a question about brake pads and 1 person out of 900 members posts a reply. What the f!@k? I dont get it. I like the site and the ability to access other peoples opinions and experiance but it seems that lots are more interested in high fiveing and talking about each others assess. I dont want to start a pissing match but someone help me out here.
( Be easy on me this is my first forum and we still have less than 10 hrs of daylight with average temps -25c)Thanks

GW, sorry about the lack of responses. Sometimes it is a little slow around here. I just checked on the ADVrider site. At 11:20 pm there were almost 3,000 folks on the forum. A quick search there in GSpot revealed the most used non OEM pads are EBC with several comments about longer life (x2) than stock as well as better feel. I've always used DP's but the EBC's may be an even better choice. Sometimes you have to be thick skinned over there but there is a wealth of knowledge on Advrider. Hope this helps.

Well, you asked for other than OEM. Perhaps not that many care to use other than OEM... don't know, just guessing. I use the OEM organic pads.

Default Oem Or Aftermarket - Abs Or Not?

My recollection is that there are different BMW part numbers for replacement pads depending upon whether or not you have ABS/servo. I guess it has to do with the compounds for the pads as they look the same. On the ABS model the rear OEM pads are organic. The fronts may be sintered, I'm not sure. Supposedly EBC says not to use their pads on the ABS models. I don't know what Dunop says about theirs. Threads on some other sites suggest that you should only use the OEMs on an ABS/servo system because of the different compounds and part numbers.

I have ABS/servo on my 2005. I got 24,000 on my rear pads and have over 30,000 on the fronts with many miles left to go on them. I feel this is pretty mileage. On other bikes I have used EBC, Ferrodos (sp?) and Dunlops but never got near this mileage Even though they are expensive, I'm sticking with the OEMs. Chicago BMW seems to be the cheapest source.

On ABS/servo models when using the front brake, it activates the rear automatically. On non-ABS bikes I pratically always use both brakes at the same time. I figured maybe manually activating the rear brake in addition to the ABS/servo feature caused the rear pads to go away sooner. So now I try not to depress the rear brake pedal in most situations relying on the ABS/servo instead. I don't have enough miles on the new rear pads to know if this is making a difference.

Just one man's opinion.

See realoem.com which says this about part #5 (the rear pads)

SET, BRAKE PADS, ORGANIC (34 21 2 335 465)

or

FOR OFF-ROAD USE
SET OF BRAKE PADS, SINTERED METAL (34 21 7 660 281)

That's for a bike with an 05/05 build date
