Default Chicane tankbag

For the first 40,000 miles I didn't use a tankbag, partially because I had mounted my 276C just above the handlebar clamps, and that made it impossible for me to see very well if I had a tankbag.

But I recently moved the GPS to a home-made shelf above the instruments. So I flipped the gas cap opening 180 degrees (a wonderful change, BTW) and bought a tankbag.

I noticed a Chicane brand bag (made in Viet Nam, I believe) on another R1200GS in the parking lot of a hotel where I was staying. The owner gave me a 'tour' of the bag, and it's pretty nice. The feature I like the most is that the base is shaped to fit the stock R1200GS tank perfectly.

I got mine from Sierra BMW (
http://www.sierrabmw.com/) for about $175 US.

Default Size DOES Matter!

This spring I swapped out the Eclipse tank bag I'd been using for 20+ years for a much smaller one from Nelson-Rigg. I found that the Eclipse was keeping me too far to the rear when standing on the pegs, especially when going up steep trails. The Nelson-Rigg is nice, but I'd like to find something with more capacity but just as narrow. What size is the Chicane bag?

Trails,

Scot

I'm sure you can Google for the size of the Chicane, but it isn't a small bag, nor a very large one. I'd call it medium-large.

For me, standing up on flat terrain, I do bump into the back of the bag. It's not annoying, but it was really nice when I didn't have a tankbag, 'cause I could stand and arch my back with my hips forward to stretch tired muscles. Can't do that now.

Likewise, if I were riding off-road, I'd need to remove the tankbag so I could lean forward into the bars for steep ascents. But come to think of it, if I were to take my R12GS off-road, which I'm not going to because I have real dirtbikes for that, I'd remove the tankbag, saddlebags and everything else I could take off first. Maybe including the windscreen.

That Chicane bag looks nice.

I use a Wunderlich, which has a nice big map pocket: http://209.61.235.222/merchant2/index.html

Default Tank bag

Hi Emoto

how easy is this tank bag to remove / flip up when re fueling ? and does it make you sit any further back than normal ? and is it reasonably water proof.

Lots of questions but would appreciate your opinions.

Cheers Steve

I use a Cortech Super-mini bag on a SWMototech quick release mount. It works great!

Default SW Mototech mounting plate

Jim,

I came across this thread while searching. I could not locate a source for the SW Mototech mounting plate shown in your pix. Where can they be found on this side of the big pond?

Does the plate allow you to tip the bag forward for fueling or does the bag just come loose in your lap when fueling?

One more question, will the mounting plate work on most tankbags?

TIA!!

You can buy the kit at www.twistedthrottle.com but you have to use their bag. I used the cheapest one for a while, then converted it to the Cortech Super-mini. I am confident other bags will work, and have seen a few variations.
