Nick,
I'm 5'10" with a 31" inseam. I was fortunate enough to be able to sit on both lowered seat versions of the GS and GSA before I bought my GS. When I went to buy the GS, the salesman recommended against the lowered seat - he was the same size as me, but advised me that the lowered seat causes the legs to cramp on the footpegs since the distance to the pegs is shorter. I have the regular seat on the lowest standard setting on the GS and I'm considering raising it as I've noticed that the seating position is more cramped than on my old RT. I can't get both heels on the ground now, but I'm not on the tips of my toes either. Just something to think about.

For right now my main problem is feeling like my feet are too far away from the ground and hoping to alleviate that while still maintaining comfort. I use my GS mostly for long distance touring so comfort is important, but the few times I've taken it off road trying to balance the top heavy machine with these short little legs of mine is proving daunting. Thanks for the reply! -Nick |

BMW now has a low suspension version of the GS. However, I am told it is nothing more than shorter shocks and fork tubes.
My wife tried both the stock GS with a low saddle and a low suspension GS with a stock saddle. Jethro is right. She felt very cramped with the low saddle. She will probably buy the low suspension with the stock saddle. I know it lowers the entire bike, but, from what you have said, it should not make a difference to your riding style. Look into aftermarket suspension. It is more expensive, but will make it more comfortable in the long run. See if your local dealer has a low suspenion version of the GS. |

I'm also not sure a lower suspension option would work for me considering I tend to travel with quite a bit of luggage (plus sometimes a passenger plus sometimes extra gear for camping) and as my skills improve I'm venturing more and more off the beaten path. All of that makes me hesitant to lower the bike... I'm thinking moreso a lower seat and pegs moved further forward is more what I need, but am really trying to research whether it's worth the money...? Thank you all... -Nick |
