Question Aux Fuel tank

OK, so the 1200GS and Adventure are the best selling BMW motorcycle ever...
So has anybody made an auxiliary fuel tank that will take the place of the passenger seat already...?
It is the one space available that I don't need to be uselessly occupied by foam.
A small metal tank 100mm (4") deep with a flat load bed on top is just what I need to extend the range of the GS. One should be able to haul about 7litres (2gal) extra there.

Okay, so I could have bought the GSA if I wanted a big tank, but I didn't, did I...and the GSA could also use it for even more distance between stops anyway.

Anybody got info...?

Default Aux Fuel Tank

A company in Australia makes a 5 lt auxilary fuel tank that fits under the riders seat. If you have ESA then I don't think this is possible. Your idea of a tank on the base of the pillion seat is good. A rounded tank which can be easily detached would be the go. Made of fibreglass and painted the same colour as the bike should sell well. Default auxillary fuel tank

Check out a company called Rotopax. They sell molded flat fuel containers made mostly for ATVs. Their smallest holds 3 gallons. The tank itself is less than $60. They sell an attachment system that seems secure and easy to adapt to mc use. I've ordered one for a summer trip to the wilds of northern Canada...

Default aux. fuel tank

check out the link below.

There is a picture of a fuel tank similar to what you've described in the custom mods page at the bottom.
The company is in Salt Lake City, UT, but they may be able to make you one and ship it to you.

Cool

Thanks for the above, guys, but I'm still looking...!
The Rotopax tanks look good, but the fitting bracket would not work for my purpose. I have seen successful installations on Jesse Bags etc.

"A company in Australia makes a 5 lt auxilary fuel tank that fits under the riders seat." Any idea on who...?

Damn, but that 'custom mod tank' is FUGLY!

Perhaps I'd better get out an old cardboard box and packaging tape again and work out my own. I've got a piece non-slip aluminum sheet that's looking for a purpose.

I was hoping someone had done it before.

I have a fuel cell on my pillon, but it's a little bigger than what you describe - just over 4 gallons. It was actually made for a K1200LT to bring it exactly to the IBA limit of 11.5 gallons, but I was able to buy it from someone (with a K1200LT!) who decided to go a different route.

It's mounted on a Jesse plate and is quite secure.

http://www.sampson-sporttouring.com/fuel-cells.html is the manufacturer of my cell. There are others.

Make sure you ground and vent your cell. Drilling into the flange on the side of the fuel cell is a little scary, but take your time and it'll be okay! I have a quick disconnect on the line from the cell to the flange so I can just disconnect the QD and take off the Jesse plate and it's off.

Also, you might be interested in a custom fuel cell cover by Linda T. I have one on my fuel cell with a couple pouches on it and I LOVE it. http://www.customtankbags.com/

http://www.tourtank.com/ might be the company someone else mentioned. I love this one because it looks like a little keg!

Good luck!

Thanks for the info.

I have already seen most of the sites you referred to - I was just hoping that someone had tailored one for the R1200GS already.

I haven't got much further with my own concept, as I have since upgraded to the '09 model 1200GS. But now my idea is being refined and I'm engaged in the provisional procrastination stage...

I'm still interested in finding out about the Australian model mentioned, but I have no data...

Default Fuel Cell (Bag)

I bought myself a 7 litre Fuel Cell, which I stick in a pannier when required. Its not linked to the main fuel tank, but its a cheap and easy solution.

See the www.bikegear.co.za website under 'NEW ITEMS'

Works for you, Gus, but that pannier is already full on my bike!

I'm looking at PegPackers in the meantime...

Two gallon (7,5lt)

One gallon (3,75lt)

Anyone used them and can vouch for them...?
