I have a Starcom 1 on the GS and a Starcom 1 Advanced on the LT. The one on the LT I have the Bluetooth interface, it works really well to connect your GPS or Phone. I know it is not one of the ones that you mentioned but it is a very good intercom that is resonably priced. It is about the same cost as an Autocom. The Starcom 1 is larger but it can run off of an internal 9V battery if you want. The Advanced has more audio inputs and controls than the standard one.

I've got the Starcom 1 as well and like it. Jules and I can have held a conversation to upwards of 90 mph once (on a straight a way).
HEY!!! Their ad proclaimed that, so I had to find out... And the running off of 9v battery is nice as well. I took it to Vegas with me and used it on a rental BMW and the battery lasted all day for us. |

I have the Autocom PRO-7 to use on the GSA. I have the PRO-AVI on my LT. I like the AVI best. Just seems clearer.
I plan to mount the PRO-7 in the tool location on the 07 GSA. I will move the tools to saddle bag. On the LT I run the wife's lead between the seats so its in her lap. Mine comes out between seat and tank. Works great, so I'll try to replicate on the GSA. Right now, I put the PRO-7 in my jacket pocket and run on 9v- just till I have time to wire the entire bike... GPS, RADAR, GERBING, LIGHTS, and Autocom. |

I recently tried the BlueAnt system that uses Bluetooth for wireless intercom and has no master-unit, just a pair of headsets that each include a radio-module that mounts to the helmet. It's basically just an intercom (the driver can connect to a phone via bluetooth as well), but it works okay. Conversation was easy but operation was awkward at times (especially with the multi-function button!), and the mounting-clamps broke early on. Also battery-life was much less than claimed.
I have heard that the Scala Rider setup is much better. Thank goodness that the BlueAnt intercom was a door-prize, as I would have been pretty upset if I'd paid retail-price, $189 PER HEADSET!

Have used a Chatterbox X2 for 5+ years and been real happy with it. Didn't have BT then (not sure they do now?) and have thought of upgrading, but I'm just too happy with the current rig's performance. I'm definitely a wireless kinda gadget freak, but have gotten real accustomed to my setup and its been with me through 3 bikes so far . . . and I just can't move on - which is a good thing.
Can't compare it to the other products on the market, but at the time of purchase, it was a better value for rider-to-rider or two up intercom and it allows for music/phone input w/o another rig to plug into. My $.02. |

For bluetooth connectivity to my cell phone, I connect through my Zumo 550 GPS. By wiring my Autocom Pro M1 (yeah, it's old!) to the GPS, my phone can be anywhere on the bike (saddlebag, pocket, whatever) and I can send and recieve calls through the Zumo, utilizing the microphone and speakers in the helmet. This set up allows the XM radio or MP3 from the Zumo to play in my ears through the Autocom with GPS voice commands, cell phone, and radar over-rides. Seems like a complete solution so far......
So far I've had this set up in a tank bag, but I just bought a new '07 Adventure and plan to do a full install as time permits. The tool kit area seems logical to me, although I haven't tried it. |
