Default Wunderlich vs. Maier splashguard

Any preferences/experience on the available rear splash guards?

The Wunderlich goes for Euro 129 delivered (about $200 at the current rate)

The Maier from Ilium Works is $73 delivered.

This will be my next accessory as the crud from riding is corroding my shock and in general flinging road grime up into the bike.

Not the same thing, but if it is your shock that you are worried about google shock socks or shock wear. I think my shockwear cover was about $15. Here it is protecting the Ohlins on the rear of my bike.

It does it's job well. This is what the shock looked like when removed 34,000 miles after the shock cover was installed.

Unlike a splash guard, though, it won't keep the crap off your frame or you left boot.

I use a Wunderlich 8160545 splashguard on a2006 GS. My left boot no longer fills with water every time it rains. The Maier part you refer to looks good and is, for a BMW accessory, reasonably priced.

Default Maier - piece of cake!

10 Min install. I got the carbon fiber paint job. I tried to place pic's in thread but it wouldn't let me. Go to Adv Rider - gspot and look for pic's there

Default Splash Guard

I have just fitted the Ilium Works splash guard, to my 2009 GS. It is a 10 minute job - no need to remove the wheel.

I got mine direct from Ilium works - via their Website. The total with VAT and the £8 fee that Royal Mail make for collecting it came out just shy of £80. Better than the £109 (plus delivery?) you will pay buying it in the UK!

Cheers

Ian

Default Maier splashguard

I too just installed a rear splashguard from Ilium on my 05 R12GS. I am very pleased as it protects the new wilber shock as well a stops all the grime from getting on the bike. Total protection.

The Maier unit from Ilium was under $60.00 US where as the mudslinger unit from other sellers is $150.00.

I just bought the Maier unit from Ilium as well. It was a good price I thought. I have looked and I don't see the difference between it and the Mudsling other than the $$$$?

Ilium also has a nice filter wrench. I liked both 17mm AND 3/8's drive. It's the only item I've seen with both. Others have different wrench sizes (bigger) which I don't carry in my tool kit. Or they have just the 3/8's drive.

Price was comparable to everyone else as well. I also ordered an item from Marc Parnes and both it and Ilium delivered same day.
