Default Passenger seat luggage plate

Hello,

I am looking at getting a plate to secure luggage (topcase or bag) in place of the pillion seat for my brand new and not yet ridden 2009 1200 GS. Wunderlich and Touratech offer one, and I guess a couple other merchants. If somebody can offer advice and/or experience with this accessory, I'd appreciate some hindsight.

Thank a lot and a Happy New Year to all.

I had a best rest top plate with a pelican case attached. That was later replaced with a Touratech tail bag that sits upon the rear deck -- or upon the rear passenger plate. In either case no luggage plate needed.

If you don't feel the need to be able to remove the luggage plate (typically with luggage attached) often then the plate isn't, IMHO, worth it. Turned out I never removed mine.

The bag expands to be about twice the height shown in that image should you need the extra space. My camera gear lives there.

Thank you, Marc. I will probably go the tail bag route anyway. How do you like the Touratech? What model is it? But I was also thinking of putting my topcase there for solo trips, to better distribute weight. And for looks as well. A topcase way back up there on the luggage rack really looks ungainly.

You're a photographer? Me too. Amateur, but passionate. It's not the first time I see photo and moto mixed together.

No, not a photographer. I just play at taking pictures with the hope that someday the good ones will come by intent, not by accident.

I don't like hard top cases, so never looked at what it would take to use one. BMW sells (used to sell?) a mounting kit to mount their their top case on the rear deck. Don't know anything about it.

The Touratech tail bag is no higher than the saddle it replaced. They have lots of choices: linky

Mine is 055-1224. I also have 055-1226. If you like bigger there is 055-1222 which straps to the rear seat and overhangs onto the rack. Lots of choices. Lots of $$$

I do like their stuff, though. My tankbag is also from Touratech.

Happy New Year!

Thanks again, Mac. Yes, I have two tank bags from Touratech for my F800, and they're very good. I will look into the ones you mention. But, yes, mucho dollares.

Happy New Year to you.
