Parking Light Stays on

Hey folks. Sorry for the noob question.

When I put the key in the ignition (on) the headlight does not come on. Only the parking light. When I start the bike the headlight comes on and the parking light stays on as well.

I thought the headlight should come one once the key is in the ignition and on. Is something wired incorrectly?

The bike needs all the juice it can get from its small battery to spin the starter. Not having a 4 or 5 amp draw lighting an unneeded lamp helps. It's working as designed.

And, when your bulb burns out you'll get a LAMPF indication on the dash. Changing bulbs will not make the warning go away until you start the bike.
