How to clean aluminium panniers?

Hi there,

I wonder how to clean/polish the BMW alu panniers (see picture for model).
There seem to be 2 sorts of aluminium:

• normal untreated alu
• oxide or anodized alu

And there is a different approach for cleaning these aluminiums. If you use the wrong polish you might "scrape" of the anodized layer.

In the BMW brochure it says about these panniers "plain aluminium surface" (2010 edition). Who knows what kind of aly these panniers are made from and how to treat them?
