Default Hey, I need one o' them

hi, I have standard BMW topbox on my 12GS and i've seen photo's someplace (cant remember where though) of a convertor type plate that locks into the pillion seat mounts and accepts the BMW topbox.

Does anyone have any clues as to who makes them? I asked my dealer, they did'nt know...

I'd appreciate any help, as I'm the states very soon and could possibly go to get it myself....

Hi Paul,

if you like a forum in your native language you could take a look at this site: http://www.bmwgsclub.nl/forum

Greetings from the Netherlands, Tom.

Oftewel, stel deze vraag nog eens op het forum van de Nederlandse GS club en je hebt binnen een dag je antwoord (in de meeste gevallen dan).

Groeten, Tom.

Hi damoace,

your dealer should know there is a set for the GS topbox. It consists of part 2, 3 and 11 on the picture above (I think). It should be a straight fit and quick mounting solution. There are photo's of this set somewhere out there... here's one:

Greetings, Tom.

My dealer put me off putting the box on the seat. He told me that every time they sold the kit to do it the buyer came back for the rear rack kit. The main reason being that putting the box on the seat makes it a sod to get on and off the bike - and unless you fill the box with steel bars it makes bugger all difference to the handling.

Don't put it on the rear seat. I know two guys that did then changed it. They had all reasons why it was better, but in the end they changed.

Default Top-Box on Pillion

I agree with that dealer. I bought one of those kits. I thought it would be great to reduce polar movement with a loaded top-box.

I rode it like that once only and took it off again.

You really struggle to get off the bike, having to drag your leg back over the seat.
You can't carry any stuff (tent, chair, table, etc.) behind the top-box.
You need to buy the rear mounting kit anyway for the mounting plate, so why put it anywhere else than on the back behind the pillion...?

My top-box is permanently mounted with two bolts through the box and mounting into the steel support bracket that sticks out behind the seat.
Tough and practical.
