Default BMW R12GS Engine Guard Spacing

I am a new owner of an 2006 R12GS. The bike came with BMW engine guards. There is about 2 1/2" between the cylinder head and the right guard. On the left side the guard almost touches the plastic head guards. I have looked at a few other bikes with engine guards and they all have the same condition.

Is there a fix?
Thanks

Two and one-half inches does not seem correct. We need a picture

You are aware that one cylinder is in front of the other, aren't you? Could that account for the difference you are seeing?

I am impressed. The left cylinder is about 1 1/2" ahead of the right. That explains the alignment of the engine quard.

Thank you, to everyone.

Don't fret!
The first time I sat on a BMW Airhead, I though it looked most odd...!
Now I feel more at home over a boxer motor than anything else.

Default Ahhhh

I've recently gone down on my bike in wet clay on the left side, I thought that the force of impact caused the engine guard on the left to push in towards the cylinder more than the right. I'm feel relief reading this post.
Hahahah
