I've got over 45K miles on my BMW bags, with 2 trips to the arctic ocean(Inuvik & Prudhoe Bay) and the bags worked just fine.

ok, new to this. just bought a 06 r1200gs with vario bags, and i cant get them open. worse, i cant find a instruction manual on line. some one want to give up the secret?

still havent figured out how to open my vario bags

Insert key in bag. Turn such that the key is at right angles with the forward direction of the bike. Depress the button on the handle. Lift the handle out of the way. There are two levers, yellow and red. Depress the yellow lever. That unlatches the lid.

To remove the case from the bike undo the latch close to the foot peg. Lift the handle as above only this time lift the red lever that is under the handle. The flap near the mounting mushroom bolt will loosen. Lift that flap and pull the case up.
