Default Factory crash bars/Touratech Al head covers

Hi,

I just bought some Touratech Aluminum head covers for my '05 GS and I forgot to ask the dealer if they would fit with the stock factory crash bars. The right side looks O.K. but the left is rather tight. Anybody run into this before? Has anyone had any experience with "tweeking" the crashbars to gain clearance? Is it difficult? Can a 'Smith Wrench' be used without wrecking the bars? I like the Touratech guards and would be more inclined to keep them and retrofit Touratech crash bars before returning them. Thanks for your help

peace, bob

Hi Bob
I did exactly what your looking at. I ended up cutting a piece of the valve cover guard out with a grinder to get the fit. I also ground the hole in the bars a little oblong to move the left side bar out to get some more clearance. When I reinstalled the left bar I inserted a thicker o-ring.
I am happy with the outcome although it was unexpected mods and took some pictures which Ill see if I can post for you
