Default After market loud horn on a 1200GSA?

Re: my 2010 R1200 GSA

Has anybody installed an after market horn in an Adventure? I've got the wiring part figured out and I just got an Eastern Beaver fuse box.

What I am concerned about is the tight space up there. I do intend to remove the wimpy stock horn.

You don't say what year or spec. I had a Stebel Nautilus Compact installed on my '04 and '07 GSes but with ESA on my current '09 it won't fit.

ISTR that some folks have split the Nautilus compressor and horn in two, joined them with a length of clear tube and fitted the compressor in the space that was occupied by the charcoal canister on an Adventure. This is, of course after they've performed a canisterectomy.

Or you could go for slightly lower dB level and fit a Nautilus Magnum which, I believe, will simply replace the OEM horn.

I installed a Wolo air horn on my Porsche 550 Spyder. Dual horns, very loud. The entire package, including the small air compressor that drives the horns is very compact and was easy to install. I paid around $48 at Harbor Freight, but IIRC, Griot's Garage sells them for around the same price.

Thumbs up Forget the Stebel

I decided against the Stebel horn after I removed the charcoal canister and the factory horn and still couldn't fit it in anywhere.

I took a slightly radical approach and installed two-tone Fiam Freeway Blasters under the beak. I had two little pieces of flat stainless steel welded to the round wrap around guard—the same one that has the factory installed accessory lights—and I mounted my Fiam's on that.

I think mounting two Fiams gives me a decible rating that's pretty close to the Stebel air horn.

I just put the Stebel air horn set up on my 2010 GS a/ESA.

I bought it here:

www.excelcyclewerkes.com

He builds you a kit to your specific application that is basically plug and play. No cutting into wiring harnesses, etc.

Couldn't be happier!
