The Odyssey is popular. It's not my choice as it's advantages (it is a deep discharge battery) aren't applicable to my use. Any YTX14-BS or YTX14H-BS battery will be a drop in replacement, but watch out where they are made. The $35 dollar batteries are not very good.

Last change I put this in my bike: http://www.batterystuff.com/batterie...YTX14H-BS.html The 'H' version has a tiny bit more CCA than the standard version.

Or you can be part of the leading edge and try one of the Shorai Power LiFe batteries. Smaller and maybe 1/4 the weight, but expensive. Those who have used them report better starting than the stock battery.

Except that they are out of stock. Everyplace, I think. Apparently the newer version was going to have stronger battery posts and then a little earthquake and tsunami that you may have heard about happened. Rumor says they'll be back in stock in May.

Next time I have to change batteries I'll be looking at the Shorai battery.

I went with the odessey. GMan Industries sells a pre modded one. Their website states premodded by them will not void the warranty.

Then all you need is a new strap. That said I did the cross bar mod as well just for my own piece of mind. So far so good. We'll see how it stands up long term. It was no more expensive than some no cheaper either. I think it was $120 which is (in my mind) cheap for a higher end battery vs say Yuasa.

I installed a Shorai LFX18L1-BS12 Battery in my 2008 K1200GT/4 It weighs 2LBs versus the @20LBS of the OEM lead acid battery it has 270 CCA They claim that you can use a battery tender to keep it up to snuff!!! being as conservative as I am I also ordered their battery charger also for $79.95 which plugs directly int a plug/port built into the battery so no extra harness required. it is new technology and I don't know yet what the life expectancy is on it but they claim that it is longer than a gell cell of AGM battery No sulfation issues so FWIW check it out the cost was $186.95 and you can order them from amazon.com the price was about the same as the OEM BMW battery!!
