Default Aftermarket TPM mechanical failure

Until earlier this evening I had an aftermarket Tire Pressure Monitor in the rear wheel of my GS. Last ride the TPM console couldn't read the rear wheel sensor and complained about it with a blinking yellow light after about 15 minutes. Today I found out why.

The sensor is strapped to the wheel using, in effect, a very large hose clamp. The hose clamp broke, somehow, leaving the sensor and pieces of the clamp rattling around the rear wheel. Of course I had to remove the tire to find the cause. I'll need to source a new clamp... or not bother putting the TPM back. Not sure which I'll do. In the mean while I cut power to the TPM console so it doesn't blink at me all the time.

A bit more info here.

That is an incredibly shoddy mounting job of the TPM. Glad you showed us the pictures.

Before you start ragging on the mounts it is quite possible that I contributed to the failure by hooking the band with a tire iron on some past tire change. I don't remember doing that, but won't rule it out.

The sensor is toast. It sounds like a baby rattle when you shake it. I guess running in the tumbler that is a wheel going down the freeway for who knows how many miles will do that.
