Default Water / gas can mount for stock panniers?

Hi everybody,

I've been searching for a system to carry a water or gas can with me on the stock "plastic" panniers. Something in the line of this View+image

I can't seem to find anything that isn't for the alu cases.

Does anyone have any good advice on this?

Default No Help

I can't help you but when I was in Korea 10 years ago I saw more things carried on motorcycles than any other place. One fellow had five metal five gallon cans on the back of his bike. All of the delivery guys had just enough room to sit down on the seat then a frame sticking up head high with a platform over the rest of the seat and hanging out the back of bike. Some even had metal boxes that had shelves and took hot meals around to jobsites. They would pull in unload and take off, to deliver more, then come back in the afternoon to pick up the food trays. I enjoyed seeing all the things they would be hauling.

I've also seen some pretty weird stuff out in Thailand but I wouldn't recommend trying that at home!

I've been in contact with Touratech and they advise not to mount any plates on the plastic panniers as they are most likey to crack - sooner or later.

Well - looks like I'll be looking at investing in some Zega gear.

I had a hard time with this too. I stared at my bike for awhile best things i've come up with is custom make a bracket that will mount it where you like but since i don't have a welder yet I took zip ties and mounted 2 MSR Bottles on the frame. I went to REI and found some nice water bottle holders and they seem to fit well. I tried them out did about a 1000 mile trip. checking at times for heat from the exhaust but came across no issues unless i want to take the seat off. They were out of the way and gave more space of other stuff to carry.

Default Which tires?

Hi StevesGS,
Which tires are those in the pics? They look fairly agressive. Do you like them???

Don't remember off hand. They are replaced with metzeler tourance radials. They work great. The ones you see in the photo are the same tread pattern just an off brand. You get road noise at around 80 but I normally don't travel that fast. But I like them I think once they wear down I'm going to try a road tire but the metzeler tourance work great because I like to take a few dirt roads and the extra grip helps. Plus i get odd looks sometimes at the gas station with a BMW bike and somewhat odd tread tires.

OK thanks! I have the Tourance EXP and like them, however, I haven't used them much off road.
